Howard County New Performing Arts Center and Artists’ Flat

Coffman provided fire protection engineering and life safety code consulting services for Howard County’s new cultural center, a space designed to foster a vibrant, creative community while also providing affordable housing in Downtown Columbia, Maryland.

The project consisted of a newly constructed complex that included a cultural center with a 350-seat dinner theater, two black box theaters, studios, classrooms, and support spaces; an eight-tier, 733-space above-grade parking garage; and a five-story, 174-unit multifamily residential building. Coffman performed CONTAM modeling and smoke control rational analysis for the four high-rise exit stairway enclosures serving the garage.
