Gonzaga University McCarthey Arena

The McCarthey Athletic Center at Gonzaga University is a 6,000 seat arena primarily used to host NCAA Division I basketball games. Coffman provided electrical engineering for a new 111,430 sf building complete with ticketing booths, locker rooms, audiovisual control room, VIP suites, concession areas, commissary kitchen, restrooms, office space, and seating and open space for displays. A programmable lighting control system operates the sports lighting and building lighting, specified by Ellerbe Becket, with Coffman performing construction administration. The arena was completed within a 20 month period using a design/build process in response to tight budget parameters. The result? A spectacular athletic center. This project received a 2005 Excellence in Masonry Award from the Masonry Institute of Washington and a 2006 AIA Spokane Design Citation Award.
