Cabinet Gorge Dam, located on the Clark Fork River in Idaho, is home to four massive turbine generators. Each turbine weighs around 795 tons when put together, so it’s important that the crane that lifts these turbines from their housing unit is functioning correctly. Avista Corporation invited Coffman to visit the dam to assess their aging gantry crane. Our engineers completed an evaluation and were able to give recommendations on rehabilitation or replacement.
Coffman provided an evaluation for future modernizations or replacement of the 275T gantry crane at the dam. The evaluation included site visits, an existing crane assessment, improvement options and construction cost estimates for rehabilitation and replacement options. Coffman acquired Rough Order of Magnitude estimates from manufacturers and developed a rehabilitation cost breakdown for future planning purposes. Coffman also reviewed original crane and site layout drawings, operating manuals and maintenance inspections.
