The long-anticipated Hyatt Regency Hotel at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland held a groundbreaking ceremony on August 4th, 2017 organized by Mortenson Construction and attended by the project team and many community partners. Discussed off and on for nearly three decades, the 600-key hotel adjacent to the Oregon Convention Center is expected to be completed in mid-2019.
The $240 million full-service hotel will be built, in part, with revenue bonds backed by city lodging taxes, state lottery funds, and the Metro regional government that operates the convention center. The scale of the project and the City of Portland's investment is an achievement that will serve thousands of Portland visitors each year. The hotel is located directly on the light rail serving the Portland metro area and has direct access to Portland International Airport.
Coffman provided fire protection engineering services for the hotel and parking garage. Mortenson was the developer and design-builder for this project.
Scott Twele, Sr. Fire Protection Engineer, San Diego Operations Manager and Dana Kimble, Business Development Manager, were in attendance at the groundbreaking on Friday 8/4/17.
