Harvey Coffman, SE, will lend his 35 years of bridge engineering knowledge to the structural team in Spokane. Harvey is a graduate of the University of Washington where he earned both his Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in Civil Engineering. He is a licensed structural engineer and is certified as a bridge and a tunnel inspector with an extensive history of bridge engineering and preservation work. Before joining Coffman, Harvey worked for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) for 35 years, starting as a bridge engineer in 1984, and completing his tenure as the bridge preservation engineer for the State. As the bridge preservation engineer, Harvey directed the statewide bridge preservation program by developing and implementing strategies, policies, and programs for the preservation and risk reduction of 7,253 bridges and other major transportation structures in Washington State.

Harvey has developed a deep knowledge and experience base throughout his esteemed career which includes designing, detailing, inspecting, rehabilitating, and repairing bridges; supporting construction projects by working closely with project engineers and contractors; and managing groups of people, including an office of 74 employees.

Dave Peden, SE, principal structural engineer in Coffman’s Spokane office, said, “Harvey is going to be a great addition to our structural team. We have some engineers who are excited about performing bridgework and having Harvey lead that group and pass on his knowledge is invaluable.”
