Engineering Earthquake Preparedness
Coffman Engineers is uniquely qualified to provide this type of service and currently provides these services for clients both as an ongoing relationship as Structural Engineer of Record and as on-call inspectors.
Our structural engineers are capable of conducting detailed structural analyses of buildings in pre-event and post-event damaged conditions, have ATC-20: Post-Earthquake Safety Evaluation of Buildings training and have actively participated in post-event evaluations. Coffman has assessed and provided retrofit design for many buildings including under the FEMA-352: Recommended Post-Earthquake and Repair Criteria for Welded Steel Moment-Frame Building guidelines.
Coffman can dispatch multiple engineers that may act as deputies to the local building officials allowing seamless and timely inspection and re-occupancy certification for structures following an event, and can assist you with your emergency preparedness and response by using our three phase approach:
Phase I: Evaluation of Existing Buildings
Our structural, mechanical and electrical engineers review your existing building documents and provide information on the expected level of performance of your facilities due to an earthquake.
Phase II: Prepare Facility Preparedness Plans
We assess potential areas of damage due to an earthquake and prepare documents for each facility regarding how to quickly evaluate the building after an event.
Phase III: Post-Event Building Condition Assessments and Reports
In this multi-step process conducted following an earthquake, we determine the extent and severity of damage experienced by a structure, assess the implications of damage with regard to occupant safety and assist in determining an appropriate re-occupancy timeline.
