At Coffman Engineers we not only design buildings that are sustainable we also strive to live that way. The initiatives listed below are examples of how each office contributes to this important effort.
Anchorage - Implemented a sustainability plan to increase awareness of environmental impacts in the office. - Participated in the “Bike to Work Challenge.” - Offers a recycle program. - Aluminum can crusher installed in the break room. - Installed a urinal that uses 1/8 of a gallon per flush and has an automatic flush sensor to conserve water.
*The city of Anchorage does not have a formal recycling program.
Los Angeles - Strives to “buy green” printed materials. - Offers a recycling program. - Encourages sustainable printing methods (i.e. double sided, electronic) - Participated in a company-wide “Carbon Challenge.”
Seattle - Organized a “Green Committee” to promote awareness of environmental impacts in the office and facilitate sustainable efforts. - Participated in the “Bike to Work Challenge.” - Participated in a company-wide “Carbon Challenge.” - Old drawings are being recycled into scratch pads for office-wide use. - Offers a recycling program. - 60% alternative commute percentage - Averages 37 transportation passes a month
Spokane - Averages 30 transportation passes a month, five carpoolers, and four bike commuters (some virtually all-season). - 70% alternative commute percentage. - Participated in a company-wide “Carbon Challenge.” - Participate in the “Bike to Work Challenge.” - Purchased a company bicycle. - Offers a recycle program. - Offers monthly employee incentives to alternative commute.
Corporate – Company-wide efforts - 50% covered cost on transportation pass. - Provide company cars to encourage commuting to work. - Supports recycling programs in each office. - Corporate purchases of materials with recyclable content; i.e. business cards, report covers.
